Visa Nationals

The citizens of some countries need to apply for entry clearance at a British post in their country of normal residence before travelling to the UK. They are called 'visa nationals'.

If you hold a passport from one of the countries listed below you are a 'visa national' and it is mandatory for you to apply for a visa before you travel to the UK. If you do not you may be refused permission to enter the UK, or even to board your flight.

As well as the countries listed above, you will need to apply for a visa before travelling if:

• You are a citizen of the territories formerly comprising the socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia
• You are stateless
• You hold a non-national travel document, such as one issued by a country where you have been accepted as a refugee
